Florida Flair

fav_DSC_0095fav_DSC_0109fav_DSC_0111fav_DSC_0124fav_DSC_0088

This season, I’m stocking up on summer staples and this Limonada Ruffle Mini Dress is topping my list of favorites. I can already tell I’ll be wearing it nonstop as the days get warmer. It’s so fun and flowy – I had the best time shooting in it. Because the print gave me serious Florida vibes, I paired the dress with a straw bag tote and cork wedge sandals to keep the tropical theme going.

The Dress & Jacket I Just Can’t Get Enough Of

042118_0268042118_0276042118_0286042118_0294042118_0300

I’m back from my weekender on the Eastern Shore with Dex feeling refreshed and ready to carpe the diem (seize the carpe). On Saturday night, Dex and I went to the Stars Restaurant at the Inn at Perry Cabin for dinner, which is located in St. Michael’s. For those of you that may not be from DC or Maryland, the Inn at Perry Cabin is stunning and a good portion of the movie Wedding Crashers was filmed there. (Think: “The painting was a gift, Todd.”)

To dinner, I wore a this LIKELY dress that I’m low-key obsessed with. The cut and shape are making it my new favorite desk-to-drinks option. (Here, we see it shining in the “drinks” department.) The dress color is perfect for spring. It’s technically called “Twilight Mist,” but I’m calling it lilac because that’s extra, even for me. I got the dress from Bloomingdales for $168, but because I love it so much I just ordered it again in a “English Manor.” I got smart this time though and snagged it on sale at Neiman Marcus for only $100. Bloomies has way more color/size options, but NM is obviously cheaper – so whichever works for you! For reference, I’m wearing a size 4. I sized up after reading the reviews and am so happy I did! It definitely runs small.

To stay warm, I also have on this oversized duster coat from Missguided. I’m wearing the nude color, but, again, I fell in love and stocked up on a variety colors. The fit is just too good. Plus, each duster is only $34 (!) and Missguided frequently runs large discounts. As I write this, everything on the site is 50% off with the code: gobabe.

A Saturday in Annapolis

Last weekend Dex and I headed up to Annapolis to watch the annual Navy – St. John’s croquet match and visit his college friends. We lucked out because it turned out to be a incredible spring day.

Finally, a frameable photo together!

For anyone who hasn’t been to Annapolis, it’s a cute cobblestone city (the capital of Maryland, too!) on the water. I highly recommend making the trip from DC, because it’s about an hour away give or take.

I wore this by the way. Aubrey Off Shoulder Dress the spring day event. And while I got a lot of compliments on this dress, I wish I could say it was the best dress ever. Truth is, I bought this dress a few months ago and had every intention to return it. Even though I liked the style of the dress (that OTS situation is killer), the material is very thin, has little give, and feels cheap. Honestly, the only reason I didn’t ship it back was because I was lazy and just didn’t get to it in time.

All that being said, I was thanking my lucky stars now that I had this dress in the back of my closet – tag still on and everything (!) – for me to bring to Annapolis, just in case. Despite the fabric, I do love the color, clean lines, and simplicity of the dress, which gives it a tailored look and feel. The dress is sold out in light blue, but pink is still available! For reference, I’m wearing a size XS. I paired the dress with a hat I got at TJMaxx.

Dress Up Your Basics with Chandelier Earrings

Do you ever have an outfit that is so easy and simple, you throw it on without thinking? That’s what this turtleneck/mom jean combo is for me. This Saturday was unseasonably cold and the only way I could muster the energy to venture outdoors was in my comfort clothes. While I’m a massive turtleneck advocate (and I’ll take any chance I get to wear them), my favorite item here is definitely the mom jeans – I love them. Not only were they cheap, they fit so well that, for all practical purposes, I consider them de facto leggings.

To level up my outfit, I opted for big chandelier earrings. Everyone is obsessed with tassel earrings right now, which I get, but there’s something so bold and fun about hardwear. I bought these earrings (and a few others) from Forever 21 when I was living in Florida to dress up bathing suits and cover ups. While I don’t remember the price exactly, I think I walked away with 4 pairs of earrings for around $20 total. The idea here was simple: go bold, go cheap, but, whatever you do, do not go tacky. (What constitutes tacky is hard to describe, but, as one of the supremes famously said, “I know it when I see it.“)

After almost 10 years these $5 earrings have paid for themselves several times over. Below are three similar earrings from Forever21:

Faux Pearl Chandelier Earrings
$5.90
Beaded Chandelier Earrings
$5.90
Pleated Chandelier Earrings
$5.90

The Little Red Dress

IMG_5619JJ-Red-01JJ-Red-2JJ-Red-02JJ-Red-4JJ-Red-3

This weekend my John Farrell and I celebrated our one year anniversary. It’s been a crazy year, but I’m so happy to have him by my side. He’s my best friend and my rock. To celebrate, we went to the Kennedy Center and saw Shear Madness – a murder mystery comedy and filled with jokes for locals. I’ve never been to the Kennedy Center before, which is basically a crime in DC so I was SO excited to finally go and see this play I’ve been hearing all about. If you are in the DC area, I highly recommend checking it out. Tickets are only $54 and it’s a riot!

I wore this firetruck red off-the-shoulder dress from John + Jenn, which is available for only $70 (60% off at Nordstroms!). Shout out to my mom (#MamaKath), who basically styled this entire outfit. Everything I’m wearing (except the shoes) were a gift from her over the past year. MamaKath, you rock!

My Spring Snow Day

Snow Day 9DSC_0067-editedDSC_0069-brightenedDSC_0148 - brightenedDSC_0132-edited

It’s almost April, but mother nature had different ideas for us on the east coast. Here in DC we’re having one of the biggest snow days of the year! I love a good snow day and even though I have a full day of meetings, I always try to find time to step outside and enjoy the weather.

This outfit is super causal, comfortable, and easy to throw on to face the weather! I love wearing my rain boots in the snow because I can step in snow and puddles and know for a fact none of the moisture will soak in.

I do wish I was wearing another jacket, however. I bought it in Stratton, VT in rush and felt confident because the fur trim is faux. (I’ve become an expert at spotting real fur from fake fur just by looking at it.) I read the filling was “fill power down,” which I’ve never heard of before, but assumed it was a play on words for down (similar to how in food chick’n is the vegan version of chicken) since the trim was clearly faux.

Boy was I wrong!

I wasn’t vigilant enough and after looking into it more I learned it’s not cruelty free. I debated what to do for a few minutes. The goal of this lifestyle blog was to show how easy and mainstream living cruelty-free could be. And while that’s mostly true, this is a journey and mistakes happen. Rather than hide the photos, I decided to post these to remind myself that the goal is not perfection, it’s improvement. I’m learning just like everyone else.

Transition to Spring With Bright Sweaters

Pastel Fashion Photo Grid Mood Board Photo Collage

For some reason, every year when I think March, I think SPRING. And every year mother nature hears me and says “Nah fam, SNOW.”

While it’s hard for me to reconcile the spring excitement with freezing cold temperatures, one way that seems to be working is bright, colorful sweaters. I just love how fun and, v importantly, warm they are. They are perfect way to transition into spring with color, but not freeze along the way. We all need a few sweaters that will help us forget it’s 30 degrees, right?

I’ve picked out a couple that I’m loving right now from revolve. The best part? All of them are less than a $100 because ain’t nobody got time to buy expensive sweaters alongside spring pre-sale rompers.
