Hair scarves are the best thing that’s happened to fashion since off-the-shoulder tops. That’s right, you heard me. This hair scarf trend is where it’s at. I tried it on a whim and I’ve become an instant believer! Seriously guys, I don’t think I’ll feel right wearing a ponytail without a hair scarf anytime in the near future. I love how they can dress up your hairdo in a feminine, easy way, without giving off that childlike feel that traditional bows can have.
The best part about it is that if you know where to look, you can snag a bunch on the cheap. There’s no reason to pony up serious money for a scarf. Plus, most of the really expensive ones (I’m looking at you, Hermès) are silk aka not cruelty-free. If you’re shopping for hair scarves make sure the material is satin, not silk. I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite satin options that are between $7-$30 to help stock your accessory drawer.
Have you tried the hair scarf trend? If so, tell me what you think in the comments below!
This season, I’m stocking up on summer staples and this Limonada Ruffle Mini Dress is topping my list of favorites. I can already tell I’ll be wearing it nonstop as the days get warmer. It’s so fun and flowy – I had the best time shooting in it. Because the print gave me serious Florida vibes, I paired the dress with a straw bag tote and cork wedge sandals to keep the tropical theme going.
Last weekend Dex and I headed up to Annapolis to watch the annual Navy – St. John’s croquet match and visit his college friends. We lucked out because it turned out to be a incredible spring day.
For anyone who hasn’t been to Annapolis, it’s a cute cobblestone city (the capital of Maryland, too!) on the water. I highly recommend making the trip from DC, because it’s about an hour away give or take.
I wore this by the way. Aubrey Off Shoulder Dress the spring day event. And while I got a lot of compliments on this dress, I wish I could say it was the best dress ever. Truth is, I bought this dress a few months ago and had every intention to return it. Even though I liked the style of the dress (that OTS situation is killer), the material is very thin, has little give, and feelscheap. Honestly, the only reason I didn’t ship it back was because I was lazy and just didn’t get to it in time.
All that being said, I was thanking my lucky stars now that I had this dress in the back of my closet – tag still on and everything (!) – for me to bring to Annapolis, just in case. Despite the fabric, I do love the color, clean lines, and simplicity of the dress, which gives it a tailored look and feel. The dress is sold out in light blue, but pink is still available! For reference, I’m wearing a size XS. I paired the dress with a hat I got at TJMaxx.
One thing I’m loving right now is the straw handbag trend for Spring and Summer. I got this tote from the Etsy shop seaandgrass. It’s the Camryn tote (which runs between $65-$85 depending on what size you get), and I’ve totally fallen in love with it. It’s very well made and I just cannot wait to hit up the beach with this bad boy on my arm. (Note: the shop does make some purses with leather, but this one is cruelty-free!)
I’m also in the market to get a round straw crossbody, similar to this one on Free People. I’m hesitant to buy, however, because the reviews make it seem like it falls apart right away. If anyone has a suggestion for a quality round straw bag, please let me know in the comments below! Thank you 🙂
