While you may know cruelty-free fashion is a passion of mine, what you may not know is my journey to a cruelty-free lifestyle started with food. I have been eating plant-based/vegan diet since 2016, and diet was the door that lead me to a cruelty-free lifestyle. Recently, I had the opportunity to be featured in Flourish Height’s Girl Chat Series and talk about my passion for living a plant-based/vegan lifestyle as well as key milestones about my health and wellness journey.
The series is run by Valerie Agyeman, a passionate Registered Dietitian based locally here in the DC-metro area. Her business is all about helping women “plant their health on higher ground!” Check out my interview here: http://flourishheights.com/casey-shea/

I don’t care what anyone says, I love floral patterns. It’s possible I love them a little too much. If I was the early 90s, there’s a 60-80% chance I would have a floral-pattern couch or drapes… or both. Once, in college, before I really started to understand fashion and what works, I wore a floral dress to a party and a guy told me I looked like a couch. My immediate reaction was a big non-sarcastic “Thank you!” It took me a solid couple of minute before I realized it was not a compliment.
Luckily for me, I grew into my fashion sense and can embrace my love for floral patterns in a stylish way. Privacy Please kills the game when it comes to feminine floral patterns. This Brisco Dress is one of my all-time favorites and a spring/summer go-to item the second it gets warm enough. It pairs perfectly with my round straw bag, which is cruelty-free! I can’t even begin to tell you how long I searched for a top notch, vegan straw bag. Most straw bags have got some sneaky leather somewhere on them, usually the straps, but not this one! Credit goes to Mama Kath for this one. AND it’s only $67 – what a steal.
One thing I’m loving right now is the straw handbag trend for Spring and Summer. I got this tote from the Etsy shop seaandgrass. It’s the Camryn tote (which runs between $65-$85 depending on what size you get), and I’ve totally fallen in love with it. It’s very well made and I just cannot wait to hit up the beach with this bad boy on my arm. (Note: the shop does make some purses with leather, but this one is cruelty-free!)
I’m also in the market to get a round straw crossbody, similar to this one on Free People. I’m hesitant to buy, however, because the reviews make it seem like it falls apart right away. If anyone has a suggestion for a quality round straw bag, please let me know in the comments below! Thank you 🙂
As a category, makeup brushes tend to be the forgotten cousins of the fur industry. They are frequently made out of fur from They are commonly made out of fur/hair from mink, horse (look for it being called “pony” or “camel”), goat, and even squirrel. It’s pretty crazy.
But thankfully MOTD has these AMAZING makeup brushes. My sister got these for me over the holidays last year, and they are absolutely incredible. I cannot rave about them enough. First and foremost, this set is total quality – absolutely no shedding, ever. Plus these beauties are ridiculously soft, antibacterial (!), and perfect for blending. But I have to say, my favorite part about them is the style – I adore the rose gold and black combo. It’s super sleek and fun.
The essentials set is $75, which is a steal since a bronzer brush can run you anywhere in the $60-$80 at Sephora.
